Isella and Marlena are from Collingwood, and day hike the Bruce Trail regularly. I met them near Kolapore. This section of the trail features easy dirt and grass pathways through rolling meadows, small woodlots, and the odd pasture complete with wildflowers and cows.

Emily is a friend and colleague who lives in Collingwood. On this day, she arranged to cross paths with me and brought me fresh scones from the Farmer’s Market. She is member of a trail running group that organizes fun weekly races on the Bruce Trail. Coordinates are sent out only hours before the races to prevent practising on the secret routes. Emily is pictured on her husband’s favourite bench on the Bruce Trail. The plaque reads, “Wendy loved the Bruce Trail and I loved her.”

David and Crystal, section hikers from Burlington, started their hike of the Bruce Trail in 2021. On this day, they were completing a section from Kolapore to Kimberly. The new sign in the portrait, just north of Old Baldy, gave a good reason to stop and rest. David had a bike parked in Kimberly and was not looking forward to riding it back up the escarpment to Kolapore to fetch their car. I ended my day at Old Baldy.
