Ivanhoe Provincial Park: August 7, 2025

  • by

Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park is a gem. I spent one evening paddling out from the campground trolling from my canoe. Just before the sun set, I turned my canoe back towards the campground and started paddling in. As I was about to reel in my line, I got a hit. Five minutes later I lifted a three pound walleye into my canoe.

Mike and Lisa

Mike and Lisa are from Little Britain. They are visiting several parks on this vacation. This is Mike’s first time back to Ivanhoe in 44 years, and Lisa’s visit visit to the park. I met them at the island oasis on Saw Lake.

Since the Ontario Provincial Government mandated provincial parks be solely dependent on the revenues brought in from visitors, small northern parks like Ivanhoe Lake have had to fight for their existence. Several other small northern parks were closed over the years, leaving northern communities without the kinds of park facilities we in the south enjoy in abundance.

Darryl

Darryl lives in Kingston. He worked as a Warden at Frontenac Provincial Park for most of his career. Since taking a position at Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park, he has revitalized signs, and refinished comfort stations. He also built fun features like the Puppy Toy Lending Library at the dog beach. He’s hoping word gets out that Ivanhoe Lake is a park worth visiting. There are a few other northern parks in need of his touch.
