I can’t count the number of times I have camped at Lake Superior Provincial Park. My fist visit occurred the summer of 1987 when I worked at Finlayson Point Provincial Park. Discovery staff from across northern Ontario gathered at Beaver Rock, an old lodge on the shore of Lake Superior, for staff training. Since then Beaver Rock has been left to the elements, a shadow of its former glory. Anyway, that first visit hooked me on this place.
Since then Kelly and I have returned with our kids almost every summer. It is so familiar that the drive from Sault Ste. Marie to Agawa Bay Campground feels like going home.

Michael and Grace, my son-in-law and daughter, section hiked a portion of the Lake Superior Provincial Park Coastal Trail with Kelly and I. This is them near Robertson’s Cove. Grace has been visiting Lake Superior Provincial Park annually since childhood and spent one summer working here as Discovery Staff. This is Michael’s second visit to the park.

Rick
Rick and his wife Cathy, from Whitby, have been regular visitors to Lake Superior Provincial Park since the mid 1970’s. Some of their children worked in the old Junior Ranger programme and spent some years working in provincial parks. This year Rick and Cathy came to Lake Superior in June and are reluctantly leaving in mid September. They’ve mastered the reservation system and were able to book nice sites all summer. Their days of long distance treks to remote places are past, but Lake Superior continues to satisfy their need to travel.
