Mark and I left Santillana del Mar early and this time chose the longer scenic route. Dudley and Richard chose the more direct busy road route so we only caught up to them at lunch and at our destination. We walked 30 km today and were tired when we reached the Nomada Hostel in San Vicente de la Barquera.
Claudia and Wolfgang are from Austria. Claudia said they started in Bilbao and will reach Santiago. Wolfgang was not so sure.
Anna is from the Netherlands. She started in Irun on March 21 and was in no hurry to reach Santiago.
Sonja, from Germany was walking with Anna. She was going to walk as far as Gijon.
As luck would have it, the picturesque fishing village is built on a hill beside the ocean and the hostel is at the highest point, beside the church. We arrived in town during siesta so no restaurants were open. We waited until 8 pm, and descended the steep streets in search of dinner.
