Linda and Rob are from London, Ontario, Canada and are on the Innishfree Irish Music Tour with us. We stopped this rainy day in Cork for lunch. Linda suggested The Good Day Deli in the Nano Nagle Gardens, a sustainable food restaurant in a garden oasis, so we joined them. Nano Nagle opened seven schools for poor children in Cork, an almshouse for destitute women, and founded the Presentation Order of Nuns who continue her work today, 250 years later.
Linda and Rob have started travelling more frequently with their children grown. Canoe tripping is in their past but, nature appreciation can be done around the world. Through conversation it was discovered that Linda is related to a woman Kelly taught with for many years in Elmvale, Ontario. It is a small world.
Dierdre is one third of the traditional Irish band, “The Moynahans” from County Cork. They played a lively set for the Inishfree Irish Music Tour group at The West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen tonight. Dierdre plays the fiddle and sings, Donncha, her brother, plays the guitar, and Mike O’Sullivan plays the banjo. They played a mix of reels, jigs, and hornpipes native to Ireland. This was our first music session of the tour, a real treat being up close and personal with the musicians.
