Chemin Le Puy: April 10, 2025

  • by

Godefroy

Godefry is from Paris, France. He walked from Le Puy to Conques. He stayed at the same Gites as us two nights, and unfortunately, now has to return to work.

Sylvie

Sylvie runs a vintage store and cafe in Noailhac, a picturesque village. She took a selfie with us after our drinks as she posts photos of pelerins and her vintage wares to Instagram.

We are at the lovely Gite D’Etape Le chant des etoiles in Livinhac-Le-haut. It’s in the small town centre across from the church. We are worried – wondering how late the bells will ring. At 9:30 pm they were still ringing every 30 minutes. They were loud with the windows open. Mark D was losing his mind.

Christophe and Sylvie

Christophe and Sylvie are the friendly hosts at Gite D’Etape Le chant des etoiles in Livinhac-Le-haut. Sylvie prepared a homemade dinner, the best we’ve had thus far, consisting of a purée soup, roasted potatoes, broccoli casserole, pork chops, an onion sauce, bread, and chocolate mousse.

We have not been booking accommodations ahead most days, just walking into town and phoning or visiting the Gites. With Demi-pensions (meal included), it is better to call ahead to ensure they have made enough food. We were lucky today that Sylvie was preparing enough food to feed us, three late arrivals. Our French friends just shake their heads at our relaxed ways.

Andreas

After dinner we could hear accordion music next door. Andreas, the host of the Bio Gite La Vita e Bella played a few traditional songs on the accordion before launching into a lengthy philosophical speech. Andreas the host says that for whatever your ailment: stress, emotional troubles, relationships… just walk. Walking gives you time to figure things out.

I’m not sure about that walking cures all, but it sure does wear you out. We walked 31 km again today and were asleep by 10 pm.
