Today was a shorter day because we pushed on to La Mesa yesterday, 5 kms past the
common stop in Berducedo. I had a breakfast of tostadas com tomatoes, Cola Cao, and
blueberry juice at our albergue. They gave me individual servings of olive oil in soft olive
looking containers that were compostable. I simply twisted the top off and squeezed out the
oil.
The climb started right out the door, up to a plateau with a series of hydro generating
windmills. Then came the descent. We knew there was a reservoir and a hydro dam below us
but we couldn’t see it for the valley full of fog. Down we climbed, into the fog, eventually to a
road that crossed the dam. The road then climbed up the other side via switchbacks to
Grandas da Salime.

Rachel is from Australia. The Primitivo is her first camino. She has been teaching in London,
England for the past three years, but is soon heading home to Australia.
We were the first to reach this albergue so we showered, did laundry, and went in search of
lunch. At Bar La Esquina we had Venezuelan cornbread sandwiches, mine with chicken,
Mark’s with chorizo. They were amazing! The rest of the day is a bonus rest day for us. We
have found our groove.
