Mark and I booked a really nice place in Gijon with a great view of the beach for tonight. A double room with a private bath at the Boogalow Hostel cost us 50 Euros. In the summer, one would need to book four months in advance and pay much more.

This is Marcos of E Forestos Services. He and two others were busy harvesting eucalyptus trees near the top of a steep climb near Peon. Eucalyptus is grown and harvested for paper production.

Louisa is the keeper of the Bar el Curbiellu in El Curviellu. She didn’t speak English, but a local customer said she had been operating this for a very long time.

Andre is from Paris, France, and he is cycling his camino. This is his last day on the Camino del Norte. He has done Camino Frances previously.
The walk to the edge of Gijon was varied with forests, farms, and one major climb. We were told that a bus from the edge of the city to city centre was available and that the walk through town was not pleasant. We were undecided on the bus option, but as we left a forested trail and started down the main road to Gijon, the bus just happened to be approaching. I think I made the decision to take the bus, but both of us were pleased with our ride. It spared us from 7 km of pavement, allowing us a much needed restful afternoon.

Anna, from Germany, is on her first camino. She started in San Sebastián on Easter weekend. When she finishes, she is going surfing in Portugal. She is enjoying the view in this portrait from the waterfront Boogalow Hostel in Gijon.
