Today Mark and I walked from El Pontarron to Santona, 25 km. The route passes through highlands filled with horse farms and forests. we finally descended into Laredo, a still quiet beach town. At the end of the long beach we caught a small ferry that transports pedestrians from Laredo to Santona. The square in Santona was alive with activity as a 10 km race had been run earlier in the day.
We met many familiar pilgrims and a few new ones during the day, but I didn’t take any new portraits. I do shoot portraits of people I have just met but I prefer to wait until they have had a chance to get to know me first.
We stayed the night at municipal albergue at the edge of Santona with only three other pilgrims. At 7.54 Euros, this was our least expensive accommodation to date. In the evening, we walked back into Santona to eat, do laundry, and purchase some breakfast food.
