Bruce Trail Portraits: May 18, 2022

Kelly and Cypher dropped me off at Mount Nemo on May 18, 2022 to resume my thruhike of thw Bruce Trail.

This is my wife, Kelly and dog, Cypher a Mount Nemo. They dropped me off at the location where I stopped hiking, nine days earlier. Eight days of rest, two trips to a medical clinic, and a completed round of antibiotics put me back on the trail. My leg was still tender from the cellulitis, but getting better by the day. I was eager to get going again so I hiked 35 km that day. I camped the night at the Kelso Conservation Area group camp. It felt very good to be back on the trail.

The following day, May 19, 2022, I passed under Highway 401 in the dark at 6 am. I crossed “The Gap” at Dufferin Aggregate’s Milton Quarry in the mist, after hearing a never ending line of trucks coming and going. Speyside and Limehouse, two historic villages on the trail held historic evidence of the importance of limestone to the area. There are lots of ruins to explore along the way. I finished the day at the Cedar Springs Motel. For an older strip motel, it was quite busy. The room was adequate, the neighbours friendly, but the restaurant, Royal Pizza, that agreed to deliver veal parmigian with spaghetti and cheese to me from Georgetown, made my day.
